About Us

Hamble Valley & Eastleigh Heritage Guides is an independent association of volunteers founded in 2002, operating on a not-for-profit basis.

We are fully trained guides, and some members are active in other guiding associations, as well as local history groups.

We belong to the British Association for Local History and our members have contributed articles to The Local Historian, Hampshire Studies and regularly provide material for local history magazines. We also have links to our three local universities.

Why should this station make you think of Wimbledon?

Swanwick railway station was the distribution centre for the Hampshire strawberry trade. Many were sent to Covent Garden and then to Wimbledon for the cream teas served there.

We offer public guided walks for both local people and visitors, helping to explore and explain the extensive heritage of the area. Our walks can also be booked by private groups for evening or daytime walks or tours.

The Hamble Valley and Eastleigh Borough have a rich and varied heritage. From the first mention in the Domesday Book in 1086 until today, there are fascinating accounts of the places and the people who have lived and worked here. Check out our schedule of walks, book for those you like the sound of, and come along.

We can send you notification when walks are announced (we aim to send only 2 or 3 emails per year).
